Your Legacy Designed Your Way
Life might not go to plan sometimes, and that’s why getting a Will is so important!
We sat down with a retiree from Whangarei to learn about why she got a Will and how it’s benefited her and her loved ones.
Pauline – Whangarei – Age 71
1. Why did you get a Will in place?
I decided to create a Will because my husband Derek was diagnosed with cancer. We needed to ensure that everything was in order to provide for our daughter Christine after we were gone. We wanted to avoid any issues with probate and speed up the process of receiving the settlement of the estate.
2. What are you hoping your Will does for you and your family?
I hope my Will ensures that Christine, my daughter, receives everything she needs. I want my assets to go directly to her and for her to have quick access to them.
While my husband and I had always discussed making a Will to organise our financial affairs, we never got around to it. He mistakenly believed that assets would automatically go to family when there is no Will, which isn’t the case.
You don’t usually think about these things until something happens. When my husband became ill, it forced us to get everything in order, and creating a Will was a top priority. After he passed away, having a Will made it much easier and quicker to access the funds. This has given me immense relief knowing I’ve done everything I can to protect my daughter.
